Privacy Policy for StoryKID

Last Updated: November 6, 2025

Thank you for using StoryKID ("App", "Service", "we", "us", "our"), provided by WordCrafter. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and disclose information about you when you use our mobile application. Your privacy, and the privacy of your children, is our top priority.

1. Information We Collect

We are committed to protecting the privacy of children. StoryKID is designed for children, and we do not require users to create an account or provide personal information to use the main features of the App.

However, to provide a synced, high-quality experience, our App collects or uses the following data:

a) Account Information (Handled by Firebase Authentication):

Anonymous User ID: When you first use StoryKID, we create an Anonymous Firebase Authentication User ID (a random string of characters). This ID does not personally identify you. We use it only to save your app progress (completed stories and favorites) securely in our cloud database (Firebase Firestore).

Permanent Account (Optional): If you choose to permanently save your progress and sync it across devices, you can link your anonymous account to your Google Account using Google Sign-In. When you do this, we receive your Email Address and your unique Google Account ID from Firebase Authentication. We use this information only for account management and to link your progress to your permanent account.

b) Data from Third-Party Services (Google AdMob & Firebase):

The App utilizes third-party services that may automatically collect information to improve the service and show ads. This may include:

  • Log Data: Your device's Internet Protocol ("IP") address, device name, operating system version, the configuration of the app, the time and date of your use, and other statistics.
  • Device Identifiers & Usage Data: Services like Google AdMob and Firebase Analytics may collect device identifiers (such as the Advertising ID), app interactions (like which screens you visit), crash logs, and performance data.

2. How We Use Your Information

The information collected is used for the following purposes:

  • To Provide App Functionality: We use your User ID to securely save your list of completedStories and favoritedStories in the cloud.
  • For Account Management and Data Syncing: We use your Anonymous User ID, and (only if you link your account) your Google User ID and Email Address, to allow you to save your progress permanently and restore it if you change devices.
  • To Show Advertisements: The App uses Google AdMob to display advertisements, which allows us to offer the App for free. Ads displayed are intended to comply with Google Play's Families Policies for child-directed apps.
  • To Improve the Service: Analyzing usage patterns, monitoring performance, and identifying crashes helps us understand how the App is used and make it better.
  • To Send Notifications: If you allow notifications, Firebase Cloud Messaging uses a device token (not linked to your personal ID) to send you optional notifications about new stories or app updates.

3. Data Storage, Security, and Sharing

Data Storage (Cloud & Local):

We store your app-specific data, such as your list of completedStories and favoritedStories, in our Firebase Firestore database. This data is stored under your unique User ID (either Anonymous or your Google Account ID).

Your Data is Not Shared With Other Users. We use Firebase Security Rules to ensure that only you (the authenticated user) can access your own data. No other user can see, read, or modify your personal progress or favorite list.

We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer your personally identifiable information to outside parties. This does not include trusted third parties (Google Firebase, Google AdMob) who assist us in operating our app, so long as those parties agree to keep this information confidential and comply with data safety regulations.

Security: We value your trust. We use commercially acceptable means (such as Firebase's built-in security and encryption) to protect your data. However, remember that no method of transmission over the internet, or method of electronic storage, is 100% secure and reliable.

4. Children's Privacy (COPPA & GDPR)

This App is intended for children. We are committed to complying with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and other regulations.

  • We do not require children to provide any more information than is reasonably necessary to participate in the app's activities.
  • The primary function of the app (reading stories, taking quizzes) does not require any personal information.
  • The optional Google Sign-In feature (for syncing progress) is intended to be used by a parent or guardian, or with their permission, in accordance with Google's own age restrictions for creating an account.
  • Parents and guardians can review the privacy policies of our third-party providers (linked below) to understand their data practices.

5. Third-Party Service Providers

The App uses the following third-party services that have their own privacy policies:
